House sends employment discrimination bill to the Senate

The Missouri House of Representatives has passed its version of employment discrimination legislation following the most heated debate so far this session. House Democrats, lead by the Black Caucus, spoke at length in opposition to the measure each time it came to the floor, saying it will make discrimination easier in Missouri workplaces.

Top House democrat wants new DED offerings

The Minority Leader in the Missouri House of Representatives says rather than focus on ideas that have already been vetted, the legislature needs to consider some fresh ideas.

Mike Talboy (D-Kansas City) points to the states neighboring Missouri, all of which he says have angel investments opportunities. Those could be tax credit programs or funds that are typically smaller than some of the economic development programs already in Missouri.

Missouri legislature fiddles while people hunger for jobs

When the Missouri General Assembly convened in January there was unanimous agreement that the top priority of the 2011 legislative session would be preserving and creating jobs. With Missouri families struggling through tremendous economic hardship, it was deemed absolutely critical for lawmakers to make strategic and targeted investments to foster economic growth in our state.

Unfortunately, it appears the Republican leaders who control the House have largely forgotten about job creation. Instead they have focused on politically motivated nonproblems, including meaningless nonbinding resolutions to Congress and making it difficult for non-native English speakers to get a driver's license, and an anti-worker agenda that instead of creating Missouri jobs takes money and power away from working families.
